Seeking High School Faculty
Waldorf School of the Peninsula High School Seeks Humanities Teacher with High School Training/Experience
The Waldorf School of the Peninsula, founded in 1984 to serve the area between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, opened its 9th grade class in September 2007. We are seeking a lead humanities teacher to help form the school in a responsible, forward-thinking way that meets the dynamic energy of our Silicon Valley constituency but slows its jangle and hyper-competitiveness. Major questions we are exploring include:
• How can we develop the wisdom to honor and adapt Rudolf Steiner’s educational and social philosophy, considering the needs of today’s adolescents? • What makes us a Waldorf high school? • What can a Waldorf high school learn from the progressive school movement as characterized by the Coalition for Essential Schools and the Stressed Out Students Project? • In a highly competitive, university-laden community, how can we provide an integrated curriculum with meaningful mastery-oriented assessments? Can we be responsible to our students' college aspirations without giving grades?
We are a competent, energetic, harmoniously working team searching for a well-grounded visionary—a humanities lead who will help carry the striving, creating heart of anthroposophy and bring forth from our students qualities that will contribute to our planet’s well-being. Our Waldorf community is committed to salaries that allow enjoyment of this area’s outstanding access to museums, symphonies, and intellectually stimulating venues, as well as hundred of square miles of open space, trails, and nature preserves accessible year round thanks to our mild climate.
